How to Acknowledge Your Accomplishments

This is a notoriously busy and crazy time of year for everyone, myself included. Between business, personal and family engagements it can be hard to keep up. Today’s blog is about taking the time needed to really step back and reward yourself for the past year and set yourself up for success in the coming New Year.

Shift Your Focus

We are going to go over an end-of-year / closure exercise that I did with one of my coaching clients who is a psychic and tarot card reader. She is somewhat on the “fringe” of society and convention with what she does, so to speak. We were first got together she struggled with accepting what she does, the value she possesses and presenting herself to others with confidence.

We were speaking and she was going over in her mind all of the things she had said she would accomplish and hasn’t yet and was beating herself up about it. I had to ask her to stop and take the time to really acknowledge the ground that she has covered since we started working together. She has developed the confidence and ability to articulate to other what she does and place herself in front of her audience and that is huge ground to have covered.

Share Your Wins

There is so much power in sharing your successes with a group who really supports and encourages you. It’s a great feeling to share your accomplishments and allow yourself to be celebrated. If you don’t have that environment yet, find a group or individual that aligns with you, understands what you are up against and can genuinely support you and celebrate your “wins” with you.

Recognize the Importance

My psychic client was not accustomed to celebrating herself, acknowledging her successes, being proud of and rewarding herself. Feeling accomplished and successful will make you feel good, as helping celebrate others will feel amazing for you.

When you have to hunker down and push through being not motivated, knock downs in business and in your personal life, you need some padding. Some “emotional money in the bank”, as I like to call it. Being acknowledged is banking some of that emotional currency that you can “withdraw” when you need a little push, a little spark and a reminder that is is all worth it in the end to accomplish your goals.

Develop a Reward System

Consider developing a reward system for yourself when you accomplish tasks that you find you tend to procrastinate or let fall through the cracks. A different reward for the size (and pain) of the task you completed. It may look something like this:

Small reward for finally sitting down and writing a letter or email to someone that you have been putting off (like a customer service issue, for instance). Maybe go for a walk or a run, listen to some favorite music.

Medium reward for entering a couple months worth of receipts that have been piling up into your bookkeeping software. Consider possibly lunch or dinner with a friend or a treat just for yourself.

Large reward – get good at knowing where your profits are (net income vs net expenses) goal to be more profitable and completing your books for months. Large rewards can be subjective for all of us but maybe consider a small road trip to a nice dinner or show?

The type, size and kind of rewards will be different for all of us, but they are important to have in place ahead of time to give you just that little extra incentive that we all sometimes need to get things accomplished. Recognize how much ground you have covered this year instead of focusing on things you wish you had done. Celebrate your accomplishments and put some rewards in place to help you knock out some more of your goals.

3 Tips for Finding More Time, Focus and Money

Time, Focus and Money – 3 things we never seem to have enough of.  So what is the solution?

Here are some tips to get you started on finding more time, focus and money in your life and business today.

Time

Infinity-Time1One of the questions that I’m asked most often as a business coach comes from those wondering about the challenges of owning a business. Many people want to know what the top challenge is for a mompreneur. The answer, as far as I’m concerned, will always be the same. The biggest challenge to mom business owners comes in finding enough time in a day. No matter how hard we work or how disciplined we are in our strategies, there will never be enough time to do it all. More so than other entrepreneurs, when you put the word “mom” in front of your title, it makes it tricky to manage and priorities your life accordingly.

That’s where a Time Map can come in handy. This is one of the most important things that we teach at the Mom Biz Retreat, and it’s one of the most basic, but it certainly delivers and resonates with most of our attendees. If you feel, like so many of us do, that you’re constantly running out of time, use a Time Map to own your time and how you spend it.

A Time Map is literally going to create boundaries for you in order to help get your daily requirements done. You’ll lay things out and see where you need to make adjustments. Then you can plan according to your prioritized list in order to make sure you’re spending the time you have in the most effective ways. When you use a Time Map, you’re almost guaranteed to find the time you need to do the things you need to do.

Focus

focus1Focus on finding new clients. It’s not simple! Finding clientele takes work and effort, but you’re up for the challenge. First, think about who you most want to serve. If you take the time to really think about the people who need the service or product you can provide, you will identify your ideal client. Then, think about what it is that they want. This will help you find the perfect way to reach those people right where they are.

You’re creative! You’re innovative! You can definitely come up with something these people need. Identify a problem and offer them the solution.

Money

moneyAs business owners, we need to constantly be reaching out to our clientele to find a way to create more sales and revenue. One of the best ways to make more money is to go through your current client base and ask yourself what each person last bought from you. By brainstorming on your client’s needs in the past, you’ll be able to get a good idea about what they may need in the future.

Remember that your current clients are your best source of revenue! They know you and trust you. Find something to sell to those who are already buying from you. Keep in touch so that you’re first on their list when it’s time to make a new purchase.

Ten Ways a Life Coach Can Help Mompreneurs

I’m not a quiet person

I’m not a quiet person. So when I get quiet, it usually means there’s something going on. Well, I’m excited to say that there is a lot going on right now, and I’ve been quiet (or out of communication) lately because of it. It’s good to finally share some of what I’ve been up to with you again.
The start of every new year brings me renewed energy and a strong focus. Last month I created my Business Plan for 2009, and almost as soon as I wrote down my goals, I took off and got into action to start making them happen. Seeing my goals on paper just sets me on fire and off I go! That’s not to say that I do all this planning and accountability on my own–I can’t say enough about how important my Coach has been for keeping me focused and on track.
I am creating a lot of new offerings for mom entrepreneurs that I can’t wait to share with you. One of the biggies is a new teleseminar series that will give mom entrepreneurs all the advice, tools, resources, mentoring and coaching they need to love their life and business! The other is the formation of Biz/Life Coaching Groups that allow working moms the chance to learn from and share with a community of their peers. It’s a great way to take the edge off the loneliness of being an entrepreneur and to get the support and accountability of other women who really get you and may have already “been there, done that.”

The fog has lifted

Hello, Blogosphere. Nice to see you. Been a while.

Just wanted to drop a quick line and let you know I’m back. I’ve been MIA lately given some extreme focus I’ve had about my goals for this year.

I decided to add ecommerce capabilities to my website this year. So I did that a couple of weeks ago.

I decided to start offering a free teleseminar each month so I can help mom entrepreneurs stop wasting their time and learn how to get more of it. I did that a week ago.

I realized I needed to update my business plan to reflect my new focus on teleseminars, group coaching, and creating products and programs from my coaching and consulting. I’m doing that now, and having so much fun with it.

Then it dawned on my that I shoulda had a VA (remind you of a commercial from the 80s?). So I interviewed a ton of great mompreneurs and hired one today.

And I had a very sick little boy who just wanted to stay home with his mom and snuggle for about four days. So I’ve been snuggling a lot the past few days.

While I focused on those critical components of my business strategy (and on my family’s needs), I dropped more than a few balls I was juggling. Keeping up with my blog is one of them.

It’s nice to be back. Stay tuned for some posts on what to do when life gets messy, how to drop the balls gracefully, and how to love the life you live even more because of all that.
